One of the truly remarkable things about Duke University is the consistency of its development. Since its founding in 1924, that growth has continued whether in times of prosperity or economic crisis, war or peace. Buildings and programs, scholars and athletes, students and faculty have grown and excelled at Duke. Duke’s history has been shaped by the unwavering and continual support of alumni, parents and friends. It is no surprise that consistent donors have played a major role in the university’s success.

The Cornerstone Society was formed to recognize and honor those alumni, parents and friends who give continually to the Duke Annual Fund.

  • Lifetime Donors (only includes undergraduates who have given to the Annual Fund every year since the first year after graduation or since Duke’s computerized records began in 1972)
  • Consistent donors (includes any alumnus, parent, or friend)
    • 30+ years
    • 20-29 years
    • 10-19 years
    • 5-9 years

(Membership is based solely on payments received in any given fiscal year by June 30.)
  • To qualify as a lifetime donor, you must be a Duke undergraduate who has made an unrestricted, Annual Fund gift the first year after graduation and every year thereafter. Because Duke’s records only go back to 1972, all donors in classes prior to 1972 qualify if they have given every year since then.
  • To qualify as a consistent donor, you must give at least 5 consistent years to any Annual Fund. This includes all alumni, parents, and friends who give annually for 5+ years.
  • Duke couples are recognized at all levels for their combined giving.
  • To sustain your membership, make a gift every year (from July 1-June 30) to any Annual Fund.
  • Recognition in Duke publications
  • Monthly email newsletter
  • Personal assistance with university-related matters
  • Satisfaction in knowing you’re one of the basic elements of Duke’s success – you’re the cornerstone.
